In this article I surveyed, redrew and analyzed 3 outstanding churches designed by Sigurd Lewerentz in Sweden. Tracing the evolution, between 1925 and 1966, of subtle formal patterns in the composition of the plans, I develop an hypothesis that links minute compositional decisions to a larger understanding of the buildings as integral components of a holistic landscape vision.
